At this time of year, when family are primed to descend on my household, I always enjoy a good old create-some-space edit – my wardrobe, kitchen cupboards and beauty and bathroom stash get the trash, keep or pass on Jane Druker treatment.
While the boys watched Tora, Tora, Tora, I spent last night in the sanctuary of the bathroom, popped on a face and hair mask, had a long bath and went through those cabinets with care. And what I discovered are that the products I always run out of and re-buy have something fragrant in common. The scent of the most epic of flowers – rose.
Having worked in the beauty industry for most of my career I have tried a product or a thousand, and these are the classic ones that I keep coming back to, whatever my budget or state of mind. They are uplifting, sensual and luxurious as well as effective.
Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose Eau de Parfum, £62.90 allbeauty.com
I’ve been wearing this intoxicating fragrance since its launch in 2000 and have been chased down the street with admirers demanding its provenance. It’s simply stunning.
Jurlique rosewater face mist £45 and hand cream £18
I’ve been a big fan of Australian brand Jurlique since I lived there 20 years ago. They’ve just opened a new store in London’s Oxford St so now us Brits can savour a large choice of products and spa treatments. The potent rose used in their creams, serums and sprays is from their South Adeleide farm and it’s divine.
Fresh rose petal face mask £47
This gel formula is infused with real rose petals and hydrates and tones wonderfully. A must try.
